Old wood in interiors
Which boards go well with rustic, eclectic and shabby chic styles?
What do rustic, eclectic and shabby chic have in common? Natural wood flooring - of course!
Wooden parquet is a timeless compositional element in design. Raw planks of old wood work well in many interior styles and in each of them they surprise with their aesthetics and character. Natural floorboards can be the dominant design element or a good background for modern stylish furniture and other design elements.
Floorboards? Only from Antik Holz!
You will find great quality floorboards made of pine, fir and spruce in our range. Our customers can choose from planks of different colours, lengths and thicknesses, depending on their preferences and installation location.
The custom-made old wood floorboards we make can be finished in several ways - tongue-and-groove, tongue-and-groove, as well as roughened, planed and brushed. Each of the old-wood planks of our production, has also undergone a drying process, which takes place in special and heat-adapted pressure chambers, in which the wood is cleared of insects and fungi.
How to furnish with Antik Holz?
- rustic style
The rustic style imitates the design of country cottages. In the interiors, which are furnished according to the folk style, natural wood is combined with stone and metal. Because of this, the rustic style dominates in the design of kitchens, hallways and bathrooms, where it blends in well with individual household appliances and reinforces the 'raw' design. Old plank flooring is a real must have in rustic interiors. Strong grain, a variety of colours and a solid form - it is hard to imagine a better finish! To add to the rustic effect, you can also order some old wood beams from us with a hand-hewn surface.
- in the shabby chic style
Raw wooden planks in rooms inspired by the splendour of 17th century mansions? Yes, a floor made of recycled planks will blend in even in such interiors. Shabby chic is a style which relies on authentic retro products. For this reason, enthusiasts of vintage things are more likely to go for real and aged old wood than for aged. And they are right! A natural wood floor is much more durable and qualitatively better than a stylised wood floor. To enhance the effect, you can also design furniture for your wooden floor made of old boards, up to half a century old! When you order wood from Antik Holz, you can count on free cutting to size and expert advice on choosing the right boards. For furniture, we usually advise you to choose alder pieces because of their excellent workability.
- eclectic style
The eclectic style allows you to furnish your home in a spectacular way. It allows you to combine tradition with modernity and achieve an outstanding design result. According to the eclectic style, the room should be decorated with items related to family history, such as ancestral memorabilia or old elements of home decoration, such as a piece of old wallpaper framed in an antique frame, which evokes childhood memories. An old wood floor can emphasise the unique character of an eclectic living room or dining room, for example. For wall finishes, we also recommend using the 3D wooden panels from our range, which are the perfect fusion of 'new and old'.
The advantages of old wood
Wood is a natural raw material, so it does not emit harmful chemicals into the air. A wooden floor, beams or panels will not only look good, but also smell pleasant. Another advantage of wood is that it is extremely durable and easy to maintain. What's more, having wooden elements in a room means you can choose between different interior styles, as wood blends in with any décor. Indeed, it is its natural colour, visible knots and discolouration that make interiors unique.
